THE GREAT STUDENT DEBATE

Celebrate the social sciences and join in the fun of Social Sciences Week 2025. This year, Seriously Social and the National Library of Australia, supported by the University of Canberra, have joined forces to bring learning to life with an exciting new event just for schools.

On Tuesday 6 September, two teams of student debaters will battle it out on the topic “that Australia’s history unites us.”

Arguing in the affirmative will be Carmel Adventist College from Western Australia.

Arguing in the negative will be Calliope State High School from central Queensland.

The debate will be judged by Professor Barney Delgarno, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Education at the University of Canberra, Dr Linda Botterill, political scientist and Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia, and Dr Bernard Brown, an accomplished academic and educator at the University of Canberra.

Don’t miss their performance at the National Library of Australia on 9 September at 4pm – tickets are available now!
