Deborah Lupton is a sociologist and media studies researcher who has researched the social and cultural aspects of medicine and public health, parenting culture, the body, risk, fear of crime, digital technologies, the emotions, fat politics, food and HIV/AIDS. Her latest research focuses on critical digital health studies, big data cultures, the sociology of self-tracking and digital sociology. She is the author/co-author of 17 books and over 200 articles and book chapters on these topics. Her latest books are ‘Digital Sociology’ (2015), ‘The Quantified Self: A Sociology of Self-Tracking’ (2016), ‘Digital Health: Critical and Cross-disciplinary Perspectives’ (2018) and ‘Data Selves’ (2019).
Deborah blogs on sociological issues at ‘This Sociological Life’ and tweets @DALupton. She is a member of The Australian Sociological Association (TASA) and a Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia.In 2018, she was awarded a Honorary Doctorate of Social Science by the University of Copenhagen.
