Debating is an activity which provides individuals with transferable life skills as they become more informed and engaged citizens. This module provides a framework for debating in the classroom or as an extracurricular activity.

In this video, first time debaters from Calliope State High School in Queensland and Carmel Adventist College in Western Australia reflect on their participation in the Great Student Debate 2025 on the topic “that Australia’s history unites us” during Social Sciences Week. They discuss their learnings, from how to research a topic and communicate ideas, to planning rebuttal and speaking in front of an audience.
